Beckwith Town Hall
-
The Beckwith Town Hall project was an exploration in siting, programming, and materials. This community hub is intended to integrate into a recreational site that includes sports fields and facilities, playgrounds, historic log house structures, and nature trails. The town hall is situated to the southwest side of the park, overlooking amenities to the northeast and the natural landscape to the south.
Designed with accessibility and Net Zero energy use in mind, the new building incorporates municipal offices, a council chamber, and community hall, expressed through local vernacular design with pitched roofs, local materials, and ample outdoor landscaped spaces. The renders show material options inspired by local contexts. The wood cladding speaks to the log cabins and the historic forest in the area, the masonry cladding emphasizes the formality and permanency of civic buildings within the community, and the white siding reflects the many early schoolhouses in Beckwith that were places of education and community gathering.
This modern multi-use facility provides a vibrant hub for residents of both Township of Beckwith and the Town of Carleton Place year-round.
